The Season of Bloom

April is such a welcoming month. The smells of earth, orange blossoms and flowering Palo Verde trees is bursting the senses here in the Sonoran Desert. It inspires us all to open the door, look out the window, dust off the patio, buy some new plants and outdoor decor. Time to invite some friends over for a glorious evening for backyard fun. Ahhh, it’s so lovely. I am dusting off the old man winter, inspired by Holy week, Passover and Resurrection day. Seeing friends I haven’t seen at church in a over a year…. was so warm and hopeful for…

The Tale of Three Benches

During this down time I have been able to get a lot done, as we all have.  But all this free time to ourselves is beginning to grow old and monotonous. I don’t want to go down the corona/ economy/ get back to work road.  I just want to let you all know I am eager to share all the new work I have been creating.  This stay – at – home season has allowed me to create some more elaborate work and that is always exciting to me. So the “Tale of Three Benches” is about these amazing mosaic…

Drawing From The Desert

I never tire of the desert life.  Sometimes I think about living in some other part of the country but I always follow it up with …”but I will miss the desert”. How blessed I am to be living in a place that has amazing weather,  the best sunsets, exotic cactus, dramatic monsoons, easy winters, wide open blue, orange or pink skies, purple majestic mountains, wild lightning shows, starry starry nights that go on forever. Among all that are desert critters that have adapted to the scorching summers; groups of javalina seem to startle the family dog, the coyote party…

Gently gliding into summer

I know it is still spring but Tucson is an exception.  However, the wicked triple digits have been staying off for a longer pleasant spring. I have been thoroughly enjoying the gardening/ wild flowering/ cactus blooming season in my tiny back yard.  I am surrounding myself with nature while I work on mosaic tile projects… (to be shown soon.  Bees, hummers, butterflies, families of Finches and Verdins  have a safe haven right here.  The littlest joys bring inspiration to my art creations. And I just have to say, Congratulations to my daughter, Shauna and her partner, Ryan, for giving birth…

Spring has Sprung!

Here in Tucson, we are in our spring..right now.  But don’t blink….for the 90 temps will be here shortly.  I have been loving the weather and trying to be out doors as much as possible. Either in my backyard gardening, smelling flowers, admiring the hummers and bees or hiking up in our mountains,  I love it all. Sunday’s hike up Pima Canyon:     My mosaic workshops and clay classes are in full swing now and the art shows are winding down.  I have a few more shows in April and a possible open studio in May.  I’m still deciding…

Heart Art and February Happenings

We are about half way through January 2019.  Happy New Year Ya’ll! I am relieved the holiday season is behind us, although a little sad because I love the Christmas season and the joyousness of it all.  But I  look forward to new projects the Lord has given to me for the new year.  Every now and then I am asked, “where do I get my inspirations and ideas from?”  It’s all from God!  He made me, he knows how I am and he puts ideas in my head.  I just go with it.   Every single person has special gifts…

Hot Days of July

Pretty hot indeed. But the garden doesn’t mind it.  I started a “monsoon garden” last week and everything is coming up nice and robust.  I had to hang a shade cloth over it though, so the little sprouts wouldn’t get burned.  It’s been 109 degrees here in Tucson.. ..I know, yuk! I have the screen over the seedlings because Cats you know. The middle photo is my herb garden.  The basil loves the heat.  And then a shot of my shade cloth because I’m  so proud I got it to hang so high and tight.   These days are so…

A New Thing

“He is doing a new thing”  (in me) That is my inspiration for this season.  Isaiah 43:19. The other day a friend mentioned on Facebook that she was selling her house and had to put away all her art supplies for a while.  I shutter at the thought.  But it got me thinking about how we get used to having many things at our fingertips but then there is a shift and we have limited resources. We can get frustrated, stomp our feet, curse the air, and ask ‘why me, ‘why now?’.   But eventually the disrupt  forces us to think…

New Attitude!

This year has started off very different from the last 4 years. We are now 3 months into the year.  This is about the time we first measure how the year is going so far.   I’m not sure you will believe me or that I will bore you with my faith beliefs but here goes. Goal #1. To be bold in my faith! In the spring of 2017 I had such a difficult season working in my own strength. (My own strength? you ask,)  ” I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”  Philippians, 4:13. Yes, in my…
