Welcome/ Memorial Sign February 2023

I had a wonderful opportunity to create this commissioned welcome/ memorial sign for K Newby Gallery in Tubac, AZ

It is a mosaic tile sign to honor Leroy Doyle who worked tirelessly for years for the Newby Gallery. All the tile and 3-D aspects are handmade and hand sculpted by me. The lettering was a challenge but it turned out fine. I wanted Leroy’s name to match his original sign that stood outside his Tubac art studio. Although I didn’t really copy his signature, I think I came close to what he had. I collaborated with Joe Benedict, of Caveman Fabrications, who designed the metal stand. I am very proud of this piece.

“LeRoy moved to Tubac in 1979 along with his partner Curry Johnson, and was the heart and soul of K. Newby Gallery for 32 years of its 33 year existence.

He lived a full life, no regrets, no apologies, never needing praise or thanks for all the things he did for others.

He loved Tubac, loved its people, and they loved him in return.

Ventura, Ca, 2020

This project was made in the studio, glued on mesh panels in three sections and shipped to Ventura, CA.  Apparently, there is a place called Two Tree Park there.

My client requested I make tiles in a  landscape fashion with mosaic that reflected the area they live in with here favorite plants, flowers and birds.  The birds and lemons are 3-dimensional in a foreground of Lupine and  Matilda Poppies.

This Project is not complete yet but will up date when finished.
