A Change of Atmosphere

September is my favorite month. It’s the beginning of a new season, it’s my mom’s birthday month and everyone and everything seems to get back to a routine. Oh, the temps are still hot in Tucson but the earth has a subtle change in degrees, with longer shadows and slightly cooler evenings. I anticipate the fall from a distance with pumpkin everything.

There is a change in the atmosphere in more ways than one. As an artist in business for over 33 years I go through patterns of change, then comfort then change again. Just when I think I have a system figured out, (and I have many) the Lord makes things not so comfortable. I have been quite content working out of my 900 sq ft townhome but I have larger projects I want to do and it’s become way too small. It’s like nest of baby eagles. The eaglets are so protected, comfy and cozy in their fluffy down layered nest. But as they grow things get too tight. The mama eagle begins to make it uncomfortable by taking all the fluffy stuff out and all there is left is pokey sharp sticks and branches to lay on. ( I saw a sermon on TV the other day with the preacher using this analogy of how God works.) But what the eaglets don’t realize is that they have these talons to catch food with and wings to fly. They cannot remain in the nest. Things get very uncomfortable, it’s not quite right. That is where I am in this season. The Lord allows catalysts to make a change. Sometimes it’s messy, sometimes abrupt, sometimes emotional. Things can happen so suddenly and ya think, why is this happening now?

I recently left a gallery over a disagreement. I had been in that gallery for 4 years. It was a working relationship and we both did well. I’m not going to get into details, artists leave galleries all the time for one reason or another. But I really believe the Holy Spirit has been prompting me to go in another direction. I asked the Lord, how am I going to do this without offending the gallery owner, for we had become close friends. It all happened so abruptly and a little messy and somewhat emotional. Then Poof! It’s done! I’m actually amazed how God worked.

Time to move on to the next chapter in my life. Life has so many twists and turns. I still consider the owner a friend but I pray we can go beyond this blip and still be mutual friends.
