Gently gliding into summer

I know it is still spring but Tucson is an exception.  However, the wicked triple digits have been staying off for a longer pleasant spring. I have been thoroughly enjoying the gardening/ wild flowering/ cactus blooming season in my tiny back yard.  I am surrounding myself with nature while I work on mosaic tile projects… (to be shown soon.  Bees, hummers, butterflies, families of Finches and Verdins  have a safe haven right here.  The littlest joys bring inspiration to my art creations. And I just have to say, Congratulations to my daughter, Shauna and her partner, Ryan, for giving birth…

Heart Art and February Happenings

We are about half way through January 2019.  Happy New Year Ya’ll! I am relieved the holiday season is behind us, although a little sad because I love the Christmas season and the joyousness of it all.  But I  look forward to new projects the Lord has given to me for the new year.  Every now and then I am asked, “where do I get my inspirations and ideas from?”  It’s all from God!  He made me, he knows how I am and he puts ideas in my head.  I just go with it.   Every single person has special gifts…

Hot Days of July

Pretty hot indeed. But the garden doesn’t mind it.  I started a “monsoon garden” last week and everything is coming up nice and robust.  I had to hang a shade cloth over it though, so the little sprouts wouldn’t get burned.  It’s been 109 degrees here in Tucson.. ..I know, yuk! I have the screen over the seedlings because Cats you know. The middle photo is my herb garden.  The basil loves the heat.  And then a shot of my shade cloth because I’m  so proud I got it to hang so high and tight.   These days are so…

Teacups and Butterflies

Whenever I see a dead butterfly with wings intact I feel sad for him but I save the wings like little treasures…

In the Midst of Monsoons

Well, we are finally having gorgeous down pours on a daily basis here in Tucson.  I’m loving it.  But man, did we suffer through some hell -type temps to get to this point. My tomatoes are loving the rain too.  However, the cantaloupe is a wash.  Not one fruit.  And I have decided it’s not the heat that affected them.  Melons love heat!  I believe it’s the lack of bees for pollination.  The past three years I have noticed less and less bees.  And I am sad about that.  So I got to thinking about raising bees in my back…

Mosaic Mural; Corrales, New Mexico Style

A finished mosaic back splash is a perfect touch to a custom home, Corrales, New Mexico style.  Incorporating handmade tiles of barrel cactus, flowering Yucca, flowering agave, and flowering aloe, along with a Jack Rabbit, butterflies, purple cactus, a family of quail, gecko, hummingbirds, and the sun peaking through the clouds. The project took two days to install.  The owners were so gracious to me as well as their 6 well behaved cats.  Since I never got around to Go Pro-ing the installation,  here are some still shots of the process.               My travels…

My New Mexico Trip

My trip  to Corrales, New Mexico is fast approaching. I have been hired to install a tile mural in a residence.  The tile is pretty much completed…fired and laid out. Even though it’s a fairly small size mural, only 48″ x 24″ tall, the challenge is getting it to fit in an intermittent concave niche, sight unseen.  That means allowing for slight design changes.  I am positive it will all work out beautifully. This is the basic tile layout with an aloe garden and hummers, flowering fence post cactus and blooming yuccas and blackbirds.  This is all handmade tile, glazed…

Lead by the Spirit

Many things inspire me, all day long. Here are a few Shadow Box  sculptures that were inspired by gardening, bird watching and nature with a bit of  whimsy. Hummer with Wild Flower Ceramic Shadow Box
